What I find interesting about this ad forwarded by Marc is the emphasis on Ethyl being a trademark name. Ethyl had already been around for twenty years by the time this ad was published, so I wonder what prompted this type of ad.

I wonder what the Ethyl Co. is doing today, they were the company that supplied the Lead in gasoline. When this advertisement had it’s run after the war, Ethyl was most likely trying to convey a positive message to the buying public by making a connection between the Military and it’s corporate image. The name “Ethyl” was seen on every gas pump in the nation well into the 1970’s. It was a registered trademark and positioned above the words, “contains lead”. Remember those days?
