I just checked my literature. All Kaiser and Frazer cars used the good old L6-226. But the Henry J had two engine options, L4-134 or L6-161, both flatheads. I just learned two years ago that some Henry J’s had a small flathead six cyl. I saw one at a car show. An F-head 6-161 as in the picture was offered in Willys cars (’52-’55), and in ’50 to ’53 2WD Wagons. The Willys cars had a front oil pan sump, where the Wagons had a rear oil pan sump. Darrin cars were produced only in 1954. I wonder how this little 90 hp F6-161 performed in a fiberglass body Darrin. I’ve never ridden in one. I have an F6-161 at the rebuild shop. I’m going to re-power my ’49 Jeepster and make a hot rod out of it. (lol) Hey, it will increase my horsepower by 50% !!! O.K., that’s only 27 more HP. But at least it will fit without cutting the firewall, or fabricating new motor mounts (much). I will exchange the front grill for one from a six cyl., but I won’t have to change the transmission or drive shaft. (If I weren’t such a Willys nut, I’d drop in the running V6 I bought last weekend for my CJ-6 project, making 100 more HP.)
