Colin dropped by the 2014 Barrett Jackson auction and filed the following report.
“Went to Barrett-Jackson today with fellow Jeepster and DJ3A owner Jim Sullivan and saw several Willys vehicles that I thought would be of interest. I have attached several photos with a short explanation of each.
1961 FC 150 done in Coca Cola style, might have been on eWillys a week or so ago? (ed note — this FC-Coca Cola is similar, but not the same.)
A rat rod Willys wagon about a 1950-52 model (here are more pics):
A nice 50-51 Willys truck
One of the better tasteful modified 48 Jeepsters I have seen.
A very nice Willys wagon, 4WD, upon closer inspection, it is advertised as a 1956, however carries a serial number 463 52995 which designates a 1948 2WD wagon. The body itself appeared to be that of a 1952-53 model, small speedo with the gauges underneath, squared off rear wheel openings and taillights in the rear corners. Nothing on it appeared to be a 1956 at all. The seller wrote the copy for the windshield sticker and thinks this was the second year for the Willys station wagon. Obviously Barrett-Jackson doesn’t check the validity of some of their sale information!!
A fairly nice FC 150, but the lower door areas on both sides were full of bondo. This is a major rust area for these trucks.
A customized 49 CJ3A complete with rear tractor seat for the machine gunner, extended front suspension and steering for a smooth ride and a fake driveshaft for the front axle. It did have the L-head 4 banger under the star on the hood. Had the ignition coil mounted on the outside of the hood. See wires snaking through the star! WWII Hand grenade for a hood ornament. Actually kinda neat!
A very nicely done 1951 Jeepster, an Arizona Jeepster I had not seen before.
All told, had a great day! Next weekend, Russo and Steele!
I guess I don’t understand the ignition coil mounted outside the hood on that CJ and also the exposed wiring across the hood to.
Brett, we didn’t understand it either! The seller wasn’t around to ask.
The ignition coil is the least puzzling thing to me. I haven’t fully recovered from seeing the International mate with the Grand Prix.
The slight amount of artist in me see’s a bomb and a fuse in that external coil.
I don’t like the teardrop tail lights, and the ’57 Chevy dashboard on the red Jeepster. Yuck. The yellow Jeepster is FINE! I’ve never seen red pin striping on the side of the hood before. Looks good.
Thanks, Colin, for the on site report. Sure wish I was there with you and Jim rather than up her in rainy / icy Maine. Keep us posted.
