This looks great, though I’m a little surprised it wasn’t redone with the column shift. That got me thinking, was it possible to order an early CJ-2A with a floor shift?
“Very early production with matching numbers. This Jeep has undergone a complete ground-up restoration to original condition. It has the original 134cid 4 cylinder engine and T90 3-speed manual transmission with T-18 Spicer transfer case. Each and every piece on the classic Jeep has been dissembled, media blasted, rebuilt, reconditioned or replaced to achieve its as new condition. This Jeep has been finished in the correct Pasture Green color with Autumn Yellow wheels with Pasture Green pinstripe. This Jeep has less than 100 miles since restoration. Upgrades include stainless steel valves with hardened seats for unleaded fuel, carburetor (original included) and transfer case counter shaft upgrades. Start to finish album and documentation of restoration included. SHIPPING: Actual delivery cost will be the responsibility of the buyer.”
Dave, to answer your question, no….. Willys changed out the column shift to cane shift mainly due to complaints about the column shift being unreliable for field work. The change was called for early in 1946, and phased into production as current on-hand stock of column shift parts were running out. I will have to dig deeper, but i think the transition occured in February or March of 1946… Mike
Beautiful restoration! My wife has a 1946 VEC (#15106) with floor shifter and bed extender. Replacement tires from Montgomery Ward. Has had it about 43 or 44 years. (Not for sale).
CJ2A38221 was last column shift.
Very nice jeep, not likely original engine with that ribbed cylinder head. I wonder why so many guys use the solex carb. I have never found the original carter carb. to be unreliable. I don’t think they are that rare or expensive?
Dennis, were your wife and her jeep a package deal when you met? Or did she acquire the jeep later? Sounds like a good looking jeep 🙂
Dave, If you look on the one photo on Ebay of the gauges, you can see the floor board where the column shifter should be.
Dave, LOL…she was the “Maid of Honor” at my first wedding…but we won’t go any farther!! Had the CJ2a & “65 Dodge Dart GT (junior muscle car)…came with the package.
How much are you asking?
