   OK, so is this suppose to look like a WWII escape?
   If so, the Jeep is wrong. It’s a CJ-3B (or M-606). Not built until 8 years after the war.

   The sign on the fence reads “US Army Stockage”. I can’t read the bottom line. I *think* it is just supposed to be silly.

   It is a cheap pulp novelette cover from the 50s crossed with a tongue-in-cheek commentary on how some modern jeep clubs make you jump through hoops to be a member, and yes, it is just supposed to be silly. It is not supposed to be historical reference.

   The background painting is from a 1962 issue of “Stag” magazine, and represents an actual 1944 escape from an Army stockade in Italy.
