UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1250
(08/09/2012) Here’s a rare project Surrey.
“1964 Jeep Surrey Gala(DJ3A) 2 wheel drive version of the CJ3. Unique model, not very many made. Has the 134CI flathead that runs pretty good. This model has the 3 speed stick shift on the column instead of the floor. This Jeep has already been soda blasted and is ready for restoration. Would be a good father/son project.”
Owner Randy sent me the following
Here’s the serial number: 56337 22285
The 56337 identifies it as a DJ3A and I believe the production number(22285) puts it in the 1964 model year. The original rear bumper is gone. Someone made a pipe rear bumper for it. If you would like to see it let me know.
Bruce and I have been corresponding back and forth with Randy. The serial number actually indicates it being built in 1962, but possibly not being sold and titled until 1964. We are looking into it having been a Surrey originally, with more photos by Randy to help figure it out.
Did anyone actually ever figure out if it was a Surrey at one time? I never noticed the spliced in extra metal on the windshield before.. It isn’t far from me (about an hour away) so If anyone wanted it checked out I might be able to help.
Never heard any more from Randy on this DJ3A. The front bumper is actually a front bumper off a truck or Jeep wagon. I don’t see anything other than some faded paint showing through on the steering wheel to indicate it was ever a Surrey.
Just drove the little Jeep yesterday around the yard. Engine still runs good. Interested in everyone’s comments. I wish someone who restores these little Jeeps would buy this one and give it a good home.
Thanks Randy. I’d like to see that happen as well. Trying to find the right buyer will take time because not too many people know much about the DJ-3As or the Surreys.
All three guys who have commented above are extremely knowledgeable about them. If you have any questions, shoot them an email.

Randy, I’m the oversize escort guy who tried to hook up with ya.. Maybe one of these days I won’t have to go on another run in the middle of nowhere the next day and I’ll be able to stop in and take a look.
