UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.
The photo of this accident was forwarded by Marc.
“Our dear Grandma Dolores kept everything!
Here, as found in her home is a vintage photograph of a demolished jeep. There is no writing with the exception of the stamp on the back which reads:
“FFC-51-10109 31 MARCH 51
Demolished Jeep:
The Jeep of BB Commander LT Col Elmer Owens, 24th line div, which had been blown up by hitting a road mine in front of a tank of the 5th rct, 24th line div during offensive action in Korea. LT Col Owens receives first aid at right.
US Army photo by SFC Chang (LF)
Staff distribution only–not for publication until released by GHC PIO”
It also faintly says “record” and “file”
Dolores’s husband was a US army photographer stationed in Tokyo, Japan during the Korean War. We will be listing many of the items and photographs he brought back, including photos he took while training.”
Stuff like this really intrigues me. I was compelled to look up Col Elmer Gordon and see what became of him…
Made a full recovery and received the Silver Star (possibly for this incident I assume) in the Army. Lived till 2005
Here is his Obit.
