Marc spotted this unusual bed extension. I think this is a non-newgren extender that’s been customized.

Extension bed or extension body for vintage Willys CJ Jeeps. During the Jeep craze following WWII, Willys and several other companies were making all sorts of Jeep accessories. One of the coolest was the Extension Body or Extend-A-Bed. Some were made “knocked down” for assembly by the owner. Others were made “welded up” and ready to bolt on. This bed extension is “welded up” and installs with only 8 bolts. I do not know who, when or where this bed extension was made. There is no maker’s tag present. The floor and sides are formed from one solid piece of heavy sheet steel turned up at the sides. It took a heavy metal brake to form this steel. The body is braced and welded. All bolt holes to mount to the jeep are present.

This rare accessory is a real attention getter at Jeep rallys and car shows.
These bed extensions were always supplied without a tailgate and hinge brackets because you removed your existing tailgate and hinge brackets and then remounted them on the bed extension.
The steps to installing this extension are: 1. Remove your tailgate and hinge brackets (4 bolts). 2. Bolt bed extension to rear of jeep (8 bolts-furnished). Now install your existing tailgate hinge brackets to the rear of the extension (4 bolts). Finally slip your existing tailgate into the hinge brackets and connect your lights.
This extension has it’s own chain latches, no need to move the existing ones. It has a couple of tie down points installed. Somebody in the past has added four seat brackets to the extension floor but there is no seat. The extension has new 2 conductor wiring with 2 new tail/stop lights and tag light. It is set up for an early Jeep and is not wired for turn signals or back ups. That would be an easy add-on. It has a heavy steel step on each side to allow better access to the cargo. It has a license tag mount. It is designed to mount to your factory angle iron drawbar. Your jeep must have this drawbar for this unit to bolt on without modification. ***No tailgate is included, you must use your existing tailgate and hinge brackets.***

CONDITION: Excellent. Body is nice. Olive drab paint is fine with a slight dull spot on the bed floor (see pics). Wiring is like new.
SIZE: Inside width is about 3′-0″ to match the existing tailgate opening. Inside length is 2′-0″. Height matches existing Jeep sides. This gives you 4′-10″ total length from the backs of the seats to the closed tailgate or 6′-1″to the end of the tailgate when opened.
HARDWARE: This bed extension will come with all 8 bolts needed to mount it on your Jeep.
