“Up for sale is 1954 Willy CJ3B high hood.  I have owned the Jeep a couple of years and absolutely love it.  Unfortunately, I have to sell off a few hobby cars to raise some funds.  My loss is your gain.  Please see the below description of the Jeep and contact me with any questions.

Body  The tub of this Jeep was replaced by its previous owner with a brand new Willys-Overland tub.  This means that there is absolutely no rust anywhere.  The windshield frame has numerous small holes from the snaps of various tops being mounted over the years.  They would be very easy to weld up and have the frame powder coated.  The Jeep has windshield wiper motors and arms, though they are not wired.  I do not know if the motors work or not.  Paint on this Jeep looks really good, though there are a few scratches and scrapes.  This is a driver, not a show queen but it does look great.  There is a really neat seat mounting system that was built and it incorporates two cup holders as well as a solid mounted ammo box that serves for center console storage.  The passenger seat flips up to allow access to the back and also to under-seat toolbox.  All of the gauges are Mallory brand and all seem to work well.  I do have a Tuffy rear seat with the lockable storage box underneath that will be included for the By-It-Now option only.  I do not have the keys for this lock however.  Again, the Tuffy back seat and under seat storage box is not included in the regular auction, only the Buy-It-Now.

Tops  Included in the sale are two tops.  The first is a brand new Bestop bikin top that is black.  It has only been trial mounted one time.  The second top is a white Kayline full top that is in excellent condition.  I believe that it needs a couple of snaps replaced, but there are not rips or tears and the window plastic is still clear and flexible.  It come with matching doors, though one of the door handles came loose and fell off, so a new one will have to be fabbed or the door can be bungied or tied shut.

Motor  The motor is a 302 Ford V8.  The mileage is unknown but is runs like a top.  No smoke or noises.  It has been converted to HEI.  The Jeep currently has a Quadrajet carburetor on it and there is a slight stumble upon acceleration.  Other than that, this Jeep runs very strong and starts every time.  It has a mechanical fuel pump and choke.  Newer Interstate battery.

Transmission/Transfercase  The 302 Ford is mated to a rebuilt C4.  It was supposedly freshly built when I bought it (I have no reason to doubt this) and I have not driven more than 500 miles.  It shifts solid and correctly, however, there is currently no kickdown provision.  I installed a brand new Winters shifter.  The C4 is mounted to the original twin stick transfer case via an adapter from Advanced Adapters.  The Jeep also has a Warn transfercase overdrive unit (25% od) from Herm the Overdrive Guy (Google him).  The overdrive is engaged by the big round black knob on the dash above the ash tray and uses a Morse-type cable.  I believe that everything works well and is in good condition.

Exhaust  The Jeep has new aluminized exhaust professionally installed.  It exits right in front of the rear tires and sound like a Jeep with a V8 should!

Axles/Gears  The jeep retains the original axles front and rear and the original 5.38 gears.  This gearing is great on the trail when out of overdrive.  For the street, simply engage the overdrive (25% od) and the effective gearing becomes 4.035 and the jeep drives out very well at 55-65mph.

Suspension  The Jeep has all new leaf springs and shackles all the way around.  The bottom of the tub under the door sits at 23 ¼” and the bottom of the door is at 32 ½” from the ground.

Steering  The steering has been converted to crossover steering using a manual Saginaw style box.  It is tight and turns easily.  The steering column looks like it was taken from an Oldsmobile of some sort and is a tilt column.  The turn signals are either not hooked up or don’t work.  In TX we don’t need turn signals on a vehicle this old.

Brakes  The brakes on the Jeep are manual drum brakes, utilizing a dual-pot master cylinder.  The drums have been upgraded to the bigger CJ drums and they stop the Jeep well for drums.  Front disc brakes conversion kits are readily available.

Bumpers/Winch  The winch is a Smittybuilt XRC8 and has only been used a couple of times.  The rear bumper has provisions to carry two Jerry cans as well as the spare.  This upper section of the bumper swings to the passenger side to allow access to the tailgate of the tub.  It is a very nice system that is professional built, though I don’t know what brand.

Tires  The tires are Big O Bigfoot X/T 31×10.5×15 and have 85% tread left.  The spare is 235x75x15 and is brand new.

This is a great Jeep and I really hate to sell it.  I just need the money more than the Jeep.  As stated above, the only issues that I am aware of are a slight stumble in the carb and no turn signals or wipers.  This Jeep runs and drives great and is an absolute blast and very reliable.  Please keep in mind that this is a highly modified 59 year old vehicle.  If you are attempting to compare it to modern, fuel injected Rubicon, you will be severely disappointed.  However, if you know what you are looking at, this jeep is simply AWESOME!!!  Currently there is no top on the Jeep for summer.”

    Hi John,

I don’t know if this sold or not. I haven’t seen it listed in a while. I’ll update the post.
