Merlin from Hanson Mechanical wrote a fun article about the original Banana Republic Stores and their jeeps. I had forgotten all about them.

Below are a couple of images from old ads I found here.
I remember bidding on a wagon that had been prepped for store display. for fire regs, many parts like engine had been removed. All oil and flammables were out. axles assembled dry. Was a pretty body and basically that was it.
I was recently reminded about the Banana Republic jeeps. I bought the one that was at the store located in the Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, Il. Like Steve said, it was pretty well stripped down, but only paid a few hundred for it and had a fun experience retrieving it from inside the mall.
Rescuing a jeep from the suburban jungles of retail-ia. I like it!
Mark, I’d love to talk to you more about this! I’m a Banana Republic collector and would be interested in finding a verified BR Jeep. secretfanbase.com/banana
