UPDATE: Still Available
(10/27/2011) Looks nice.
“This is a 1946 (Flat Fender) Civilian Jeep CJ 2-A the last civilian model manufactured and sold in the United States. These are hard to find and “Junk” types are being listed for sale at $3000.00 and up. Mine is in good driveable condition and can be seen at my home in Escondido.Cell phone # 760-445-2017.”
I went to look at this one about a year and a half ago…. I was excited to learn it was a ’45 when the guy gave me the low low VIN# on the phone, but it turned out he was WAY off and it was a ’46. I had a nice drive from Palm Springs thru Borrego Springs and over the mountain to the San Diego suburbs (and back) in a brand new Bentley Convertible… so that part was ok.
It did appear to be a decent “driveable” condition vehicle… It started up ok (12V w/ 6V starter if I remember correctly) and ran ok too. Something was odd about the floor boards or hat channels if I remember correctly…. like they were glued-on 2×4’s or something. Don’t hold me to that, as I’ve looked under 100 of these since then. I didn’t drive it because it wasn’t what I was looking for.
