(08/23/2011) Bob spotted this nice looking Jeepster.
“1950 Willys Jeepster; only 5836 produced; owned since 1965; 75,000 original miles; recently converted to 12 volt system including new starter, generator, and battery; original tires have been recapped; convertible top is functional and includes side and rear curtains; excellent restoration project; runs and can be driven home.”
Let me see if I understand this offering. An “Excellent restoration project” with 75,000 original miles with original 60 plus year old tires which have been recapped but this Jeepster runs and you can buy it now for the low, low price of 9,500 dollars? Wow, what a great deal… For The Seller. Sorry, I feel this is way too many dollars for this Jeepster project.
I don’t know that I’d restore this one. I think I’d leave it the way it is, except for the recap tires…what’s the point of that? It looks to have been at least repainted in it’s life. It’s down to $7900 now. I think that makes it a pretty good deal depending on what it looks like up close.
Coming from Ohio with 75,000 miles, I would be very leery of the floorboards and the rocker panels. The recaps can be gotten rid of, but no mention of the engine, whether F-head 4 or Lightning 6, if the overdrive works or not. 6500 to 7500 might be more in the ballpark. 4066 F-head 4 cylinder cars and 1779 6 cylinder Jeepsters in 1950, so it is one of 4066 or one of 1779.
I came across this ad – is the Jeepster still available? If so, what’s the current asking price?
