UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $14,997
(03/13/2011) This is a beautiful FC, however there are at least 3 issues I have with this: 1) See image #3, note the chevrolet like design … sigh … 2) See image #4, note the ‘150’ logo rather than ‘170’ … really? …. 3) the bumper isn’t quite stock, but doesn’t look all that bad.
“CUSTOM Drive Train = 1970-1984 Chevy 400 —-Turbo 350 Automatic Transmission—-1979 Ford Bronco 9″ Rear End Power Steering from a 1979 Ford Grenada (with custom lines and hoses) Front Disc brakes from steel brakes (Master Cyl from 86 CJ 7 and Stock 79 bronco rear brakes) Converted from 4 wheel drive to 2 wheel drive, lowered 6″ with custom shackles, Paint is Porsche red with Cream trim”
See image #3, note the chevrolet like design … sigh …
He is just acknowledging the chevy engine and tranns. Now if he had enclosed the whole thing in a blue oval, then he would have been more truthful.
Lowered 6 inches? Really? My monitor’s screen is too dark. 2 wheel drive? Is that a drive axle under the front with hubs? The link shows more.
Steve …. ok, that’s a fair point. I guess it just didn’t work for me.
Blaine …. I didn’t notice the 2wd note. I saw the hubs and thought 4wd.
There’s lots of repowers out there that somehow forget the transfer case. Too many bumperettes AND THEY ARE UPSIDE DOWN!!!
My first impression is “beautiful truck.” Then, ugh, I’d have to get rid of those two extra appendages on the front bumper. For some reason, my biggest flaw as a purist is that I prefer FC bumperettes installed upside down (pointing up.)
Ignoring and not judging the re-power combination, I don’t find usefulness in FC Trucks without a live front axle. If the front drive shaft can’t function, it’s probably because the Turbo 350 transmission width is in the way. I’ve seen that problem in the past. (I’m wondering if I’ve seen this truck before. I could tell if I could see it in person. If it’s the same truck, I missed buying it by 30 min.)
The GM Bowtie doesn’t bother me, showing pride of the re-power. (and signaling any purist to admire, but leave the trailer at home. lol.) I’d like to see some type of Ford/Chevy logo artwork, then both the Ford and Chevy guys would have a shocking reaction. I’m just glad it doesn’t have the correct stencil, “4-Wheel Drive” on the right tailgate.
I find its chassis height ideal for an FC-170. It doesn’t appear lowered to me. If it sat higher, he put it back perfectly.
**Steve E.**
I agree with the lack of 4wd. Even with a turbo 350 there are ways to route the front driveline around it. I have a Turbo 350 in Biscuit and learned the hard way about how little room there can be between the front drive line and the tranny (why I never ran across any warnings about this issue during my research still puzzles me). The irony with tranny is that I thought I would really appreciate having it during difficult clutching spots while jeeping; instead, I’m finding I want the clutch during those times. However, it is very convenient not having to shift while driving around town.
