Jim plans to purchase a CJ-5 and drive it a few thousand miles home. He asked me what tires/rims I would recommend for driving on the road, because the jeep currently has NDT tires. I gave him some suggestions, however my research has been more focused on 10″ rims and tires. Anyone have some suggestions for tires they like? He might also be interested in selling the NDT tires and rims that are on it, which appear in good shape.

bfgoodrich all terrains. long wearing, low road noise, good in any weather even icy conditions. had them on my CJ 5.
I had good luck with the BFG AT also. I have some American Racing white spoke rims if he is interested. They are 15″ by I think 7″. Right now they have some 31″ 10.5 BFG AT on them but the tread is no good.
My CJ2A has 15″ spoke rims from the P.O. Because of the low mileage and light use, I found that lower end Pep Boys, M+S tires are fine. They cost less and will dry rot before I wear them out. I won’t say that’s the right solution for everyone, but it works for me.
I had a similar problem where the 1960 CJ5 I bought and planned to tow home 550 miles had the original (or near original) GoodYear Town and Country snow tires that were at least 40 years old and missing pieces and had the tread flapping. I found 4 used GoodYear 235/75/15 ATs cheap near the purchase site, mounted them and got the job done. Now I’m looking for more correct tires. What do you want for the NDTs and rims you have?
Thx
I put a set of 215 75 15 BFG all terains on the stock 15″ rims on my 60 cj5 and they did a great job driving from Denver to Tucson last May.I use this set up as a daily driver and still doing great.
BFG A/T’s are a good all around tire that can be used on or off-road with good success usually in most conditions.
