UPDATE: Thanks everyone!
Brian asked me if I knew when CJ-5s switched to 12 volts. I couldn’t find the answer online, so I was hoping someone might know? He has a 1956 that is 6 volts.

Welcome to eWillys.com, a website for vintage jeep enthusiasts. I update this website nearly every day with jeep deals, jeep history, interesting reader projects, jeep related info, and more.
These quick searches can help you find things on eBay. People list in the wrong categories all the time, so don't be surprised to see brochures in the parts area for example.
The links to posts below show jeeps grouped by models, condition, and other ways. Some of these jeeps are for sale and others have been sold. If you are unsure whether a vehicle is still for sale or not, email me at d [at] ewillys.com for more info.
There are plenty of interesting, unusual, historic and surprising stories related to Jeeps and their owners. In addition, some of these features have nothing to do with jeeps. This link will display all featured stories starting from the latest.
Looking for parts and not sure where to go? There are a variety of large and small new and used parts sellers both online and offline.
Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. So, tread carefully when purchasing a "project". If you have any concerns about buying a vintage jeep, or run across a scam, feel free to contact me for help, comments or concerns .

I’m pretty sure the switch came during the 1957 model year. Many ’57’s came 6 volt but I believe that late in the year they switched over to 12 volt.
I believe Craig B is right. I always heard about 1958 but he may be more precise.
Yes, I agree that within the 1957 model year the change over was made. I used the Willys America parts list book as a reference.
Taking the information from the “Standard Catalog of Jeep 1940-2003” by Patrick Foster—
“By 1958, 12 volt electrical systems had become standard equipment in Jeep vehicles.”
As I remember, the 6 volt system was an option for several years after that, but I don’t have any idea when that was dropped from the option list.
Dave-
I restored a 1957 Willys CJ-5 for my brother back in the mid 70’s and it had a 6 volt charging system. If my memory serves the late 57 year CJ’s converted to 12V. My 1956 CJ-5 had a 6V system when I bought it and I converted it to 12V and upgraded to a GM 1 wire alternator. Pain in the butt to wire up seeing as I’m hefty and don’t fit under the dash easy.

In 1957 Willys used up all the 6v they had then switched to 12v.
