“I was recently willed my brother’s 1953 Willys pick up. I restored it for him about 15 years ago and he drove it occasionally around town in June Lake, CA. It is pretty much stock, except that I converted the electrical to 12 volts and installed a stereo and CB radio. It runs fine and I just drove it in a 4Th of July parade. I did discover that it now leaks oil from the front transfer case seal. The paint job is showing signs of neglect and is peeling on some of the edges.
It has a 4 cyl F4-134 engine and a 3 speed manual transmission w/ 2 speed transfer case. I replaced the 6 volt generator with a 12 volt alternator. All new wiring was installed along with 12 volt lights. I added turn signals w/emergency flasher. The radio is a 50 watt Pioneer AM/FM stereo with cassette player. The CB is a Uniden that has been “tweeked & peaked” to 7 watts. As far as I know, the speedometer has always worked in the 30+ years that he owned it, but it only shows 07161 miles. That could be accurate, as it was parked outside at his vacation cabin and infrequently used. If anyone is interested, I also have a 6 cyl Willys engine, transmission, front & rear ends that could be included for a few extra bucks. I would have to try to identify the engine & year of it and the rest. $4000 Currently it is Northridge, CA (Los Angeles) Richard phone 818-886-5730.”
