Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t air scoops supposed to be open in the front in order to have a “ram air” effect? It seems like every one of these I see has the opening in the back, not the front.

I call them air scoops just to be funny. They are simply large bumps created to allow for the installation of engines that are too tall for the low hood flatties.

I realize you need this “hood extension” to accomodate the F head engine in a former L head engine compartment, but if you’re going to do it why not make it a true “air scoop” that forces air into the carb as you drive? Has anybody actually done this, and if so did they notice any increase in engine performance?

Steve, I misunderstood what you were asking. I have not run across anyone with a jeep that claimis their scoop has improved engine performance. Maybe some of the folks who sand drag might notice the difference?
