“I have a 1942 Slat grill that I have been restoring over the past 3 years. I almost have a rolling chassis! I lost funding and space to work on this project. Project is in pieces. I have original motor, tranny, axles frame and tub. Serial number 9962.
The first 10000 WWII Jeeps had slat grills! Once the rolling chassis is complete, the whole jeep is worth 15K. A completely restored slatty is worth 25-35k. New shocks, new brakes, 1500 in new parts invested. Frame and axles recently sandblasted and painted correct non-luster od green. The only pieces to the body I do not have are the fenders.”
i am suspect of the stated serial number…
in late 1941, the MB Slat Grille started production, with the first serial numbers being in the low MB-100000’s…..
and production changed to the stamped grille in mid 1942, around the serial number range of MB-122000’s…..
That’s a good point. I noted the low number and assumed that it was something like 109962? However, the seller has a few facts and figures wrong, so Caveat Emptor.
The serial number was verified by Josh. Enough good work has been done on the project that he purchased it and will properly restore it over time.
Josh was promised this vehicle, then the seller refunded his deposit without a word. So much for gentlemen contracts. Whatever happened with men being men?
Thanks for the update PJ. Josh had mentioned he had purchased it. Sorry to hear that the seller couldn’t honor they agreement. Fortunately, in the jeep world, I have met many more honorable people than dishonorable people, which has been a refreshing experience after my time in Silicon Valley.
