1953_cj3a_arlingtonUPDATE:  The buyer of the jeep reported that these were Jewels fenders with the stickers still on them.

Here’s the deal for today.  The stainless steel fenders (Jewels?) and warn overdrive may be worth $1700 alone.  Also interesting, this might be a DJ-3A body, as I don’t see a tailgate; however, this might also just be some kind of mod as well.

“1953 Willy’s Jeep-work in progress- newer Ford 289, Warn overdrive, Dana 35 front/Dana 44 rear, Willy’s stamped hood, stainless fenders/grill, diamond plating in back of jeep, soft top with doors, second gas tank, and wiring harness. 1,700.”

Out of curiosity, are there particular tell tale signs that indicate they aren’t Jewels?

    Thanks,

I know the guy that owned this willys about 8 years ago and he has more stainless parts in his barn.

Good catch .. it certainly does look pretty close. Note that the seller above didn’t mention an overdrive, but maybe they didn’t realize the value of it?

Damn .. let’s not analyze it any further .. how did I miss the overdrive when re-reading above? Thanks for keeping me on track, cuz clearly I veered a bit on this one .. sigh

Sherlock, I think you have nailed it!

    Humbly yours,

^^ likely, But I won’t lose any sleep over it. ^^…

Dave- Not sure how you missed the OD when re-reading, but there are those days when everything the eyes see doesn’t neccesarily make it all the way to the brain for recognition….Happens to me all the time….I guess yesterday i just had a good day… lol… Has your build proceeded any further lately? I’m trying to find the motivation to get out in the garage (if I could find a spot in there) and work on mine…Summer will be here before we know it.

    Nope,

My Build has been resting peacefully over the winter. Brian sent me some disc brake parts and I’ll be sending back my 11″ front brakes. So, that’s the next project…. Well, actually cleaning the garage is the first project and then the brakes.

Besides the cold, I got hit by the economic downturn as well, so that slowed things up a bit as well. However, I’ve got some good projects lined up which should help out there.

Yeah, summer’s coming quickly .. I’ve got a month before things should start warming here.

Glad to see you’re going with discs after all…… Rather than doing front brakes twice. CJ parts or Chev stuff??

  9. deilers

I believe the brakes are off of a late 70’s CJ-7. I’m debating about whether to replace everything including the disc knuckle or leaving the old knuckle and grinding it slightly to accommodate the discs (I found an article about this and plan on including this discussion no matter which direction I go).

I still have to purchase new discs, pads and a few misc parts as well.
