Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. (07/10/2010) “I have a Civilian Jeep Willys that was originally going to be a V8 conversion. My Uncle lost interest and purchased another that already had a V6 installed. I have acquired the original project but don’t have the time nor money to do all the projects that I already have going, let alone a Jeep. It will come with two frames, one has work started for the V8 conversion (1946), the other (1947) has all the stock(?) parts installed (engine, trans and differentials.) The body is currently off the Jeep. The body is in pretty good shape for its age. Work has been done on the floors and PORed to repair/replace rust. This Jeep will take some work to put back together, but most, if not everything, is there. The age-old saying goes, it ran when parked, but needed a starter. I imagine by now it will probably also need carburetor work (new seals and gaskets) as it has been a very long time since it has ran.

This is the later ’46. The back of this is pretty trashed.
This has got a few issues.
“Selling my Willys!!! Don’t really want to, but it looks like I might be going to Afghanistan and would rather someone use it than have it sit in storage.
’46 VEC CJ2A #17477. Jeep runs and drives great but should still be considered a project. Needs a lot of little things but I drove it all summer without any issues. I stripped all of the bondo off of this Jeep that previous owners put on it so you can see what needs to be done. I have nothing to hide with this CJ and I hope someone gets as much fun out of it as I did. This thing’s been all over the San Juans and Moab and has been a great travel companion. This would be an excellent starting point for someone new to the old Jeeps as I located most of the hard-to-find parts and got the mechanical gremlins out already (knock on wood). If you buy it, I would also be willing to spend a day going through it with you and showing you everything that it needs.
Will consider partial trades for cool overland gear (ARB awning, engel fridge, RTT, GOOD lights, winches, etc). I have the title in hand and would be more than happy to put it in indoor storage for you until you can pick it up (storage is about $100/mo around here)….. “I have a project cj2a. It ran a little over a year ago when we started to take it apart to have the body redone. It needs new floor panels. The body and frame match numbers. I have everything for it. I personally just ran out of time. It is at the point where my mom wants it out of our garage. The frame motor trans are in great shape. The fenders are good and the windshield has good glass. It is #14901. Great project. I am asking 900 cash. I would consider partial trades but need at least 600 cash with the trade.”

UPDATE: Price dropped to $450
(05/21/2009) It appears this body sports an early CJ-2A body with a VIN number of 11891 (though the seller believes it to be a 1947 body). At the very least, it’s got the driver side cutouts to validate the VIN number. It’s hard to tell what else is original.
“This jeep was a project vehicle for our prop building studio. It was intended to be used in parades, promotional pictures, and promotional videos as a Cobra runabout. We got this far, before we just didn’t have the spare cash or time to pour into it any longer. Serial Number appears to be 11891. The plate is still in place on the dash, but is pretty weathered, so the last digit may be off. You can judge for yourself, as I have added a pic of the Serial # plate…..”

This has some serious rust. However, I think I see some tool indents, which suggests a VEC.

It’s got the wrong engine, but has been stored indoors and has little rust (according to the seller).

This ain’t no ’42 (as listed in the title to the Ad). I wish I could see those vin plates better. This sure looks like an original color. Dayville is a pretty remote town in the middle of Eastern Oregon. It’s a beautiful drive whether driving from the east or the west.

(04/12/2010) The seller provides some good details on body issues.
“1946 Jeep CJ-2A Column Shift VIN # 37776. I have a clear Michigan title in my name. I bought this Jeep just about a year ago with the intent of restoreing it, but unforseen circumstances and my physical health have now made it impossible to do so. The Jeep has a really good hood and front fenders, both front foot pads have rust holes, both side panels have some rust at the bottoms, left side panel is dented at the rear, but solid. Right side has rusted thru at the rear where the wood supports are, and has a little more rust at the foot pad than the left side. It has a good tailgate, 4 military style tires w/orange wheels w/ the black pinstripe. Front floors have rust, rear is good, but is wavey from use. Windshied frame is rusted, but restoreable in my opinion. It only has the drivers seat. Along with the column shift, it has a Monroe hydrualic tank and control for a three point hitch, and has a few small peices of that on the rear bumper. One of the Monroe tanks sold on E-Bay for $300.00 by itself. The engine turns over freely, and in fact I started it breifly by pouring gas down the carb, just to make sure it ran. The tranny and tranfer case seem to shift well, and the frame looks good too! I have new front floor pans, wheel cylinder kits, a new six volt battery, and probably a few other small things too. This is a great Jeep to restore. The picture was taken just before I bought the Jeep last year. If you need more, I can take them, but I’m not real good at the picture/computer thing. “1945 CJ2A. It is the #277 making it the 277 civilian jeep ever built. It starts, runs and drives. It shifts just fine and the transfer case works fine as does the 4 wheel drive. The drive train is complete and original. The brakes don’t work, most of the gages don’t work, the lights don’t work, there is no parking brake handle. It still has the 6 volt system but when I was driving it I believe it was running just off the battery. The motor sounds good but smokes at times but then it hasn’t been run for many years until recently and then only for a hour or so. It has a MB engine in it. It may be the original engine and then again it might not as they were making these side by side the WWII jeeps when this was made during the last part of the war. It has the front frame cover, original metal spoke steering wheel, original early parking lights and the very very early square washer windshield. Of course it is the early colum shift as well. This jeep is going to need repairs and parts to get it on the road and alot of work if your looking to restore it to 100% original, which I hope you will. The body while not bad is not as good as the pictures make it look. There is alot of amature body work on it. Fine if you just want to make it road worthy, but if restoring it you’ll have some work to do. you some. As you can see there is no gas tank, no seats and no tailgate. I had picked up many of the parts to restore this over the years but I’m not including them in the sale of the jeep, however they are available after if you need them. ”

It’s not much of a VEC any more, but it still has the indents at the very least. The tires and rims appear in good condition. This might be a good price. The seller notes there is no rust, but there is an odd plate underneath the passenger step.
