Looks like a later model 3B.

“Willys Jeep CJ3B. Runs, drives, steers. Body rough. No brakes.
Trade for tractor attachments like tiller, blower, bush hog, farmi winch, skidder, sawmill, case 310, dozer, crawler, grader, Fisher plow, greenhouse, shed, farm equipment, snowmobile, atv”
Do does the socket indent on the passenger side imply that this is exmil?
That vent is for air inlet into the heater, a feature which started about 1959. I owned this CJ3B for many years as a back up for my red 1964 and it’s either a 1962 or 1963. I never had to remove any parts so it was a complete Jeep when I sold it.

Not sure what you sold it for but looks to me about a $1000 jeep.
Yes, that is a sign of an M-38A1. Also, CJ-5s have “JEEP” stamp on the sides of the cowl, while the M-38A1s do not. Finally, the M-38A1s have a glove box on the driver side dash, while CJ-5s have it on the passenger side. Those are some major differences.
