Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. I love that photo of the Bantam being loaded onto a barge.
I believe that Bantam photo is part of a series of photos of it on a barge.
The jeep without the hood looks like it has fording equipment rigged up, but I doubt it is truly waterproof.
IN WW2 — my Navy hero father said he used to take army jeeps from the army grunts and put navy numbers on them — he was at pearl harbor , 12/8/41 on an aircraft carrier , right after the attack — and later launched the Doolittle raid and fought in the south seas — one of his aircraft carriers was sunk , he had to abandon ship , and couldn’t SWIM !!! — he was also a cook on the islands , Thompson submachine gun in one hand , soup ladle in the other — RIP POPS !!! — he just passed last feb 2017 , 95 years old , TOUGH AS NAILS !!! — this is why I collect and drive and repair WILLYS VEHICLES — EXCLUSIVELY !!!
We did the very same thing with air force trucks, take one squadron name off and put ours on!
