I stumbled upon a website that celebrates old articles from the town of Walla Walla, Washington, just forty-five minutes east of me. At some point the local newspaper ran a series of articles titled “Heap of the Week”. However, one week they changed the title to “Jeep of the Week”.

Love the horns sticking out of the top of the hood, and the snorkel air cleaner. I wonder what the “shed” on the top of the hood that extends from front to back is for? And, Air Conditioning for a jeep without doors, in this era? They must mean that it has lots of air flowing through the cabin!
By the looks of the rest of the cars, it looks like it’s the late 1950’s.
She must have been very popular with the guys at that school.
I’m curious about this “plastic gun holder;” is it a gun rack that happens to be plastic, or a holder for a plastic gun?
I finally found a date on one of the photos, it was March 25, 1960. Yes, I agree, we would all have black eyes over any girl in a Jeep. (lol) I wonder if her dad installed an F-head 4 cyl. That would explain the hood extension. I suspect that’s her dad’s hunting rig. I like the fact that the editor of the paper was respectful enough to temporarily change this week’s article to “Jeep of the Week”. It’s also great history to see what others have done to their 9 year old cars. The ’51 Ford was upgraded to a ’53 Olds OHV V-8 with ’56 heads. The ’57 Chevy was lowered 3″ in the front. That was only a 3 year old car…
